Welcome To The World As I See It!

I decided to create a website to placate my photographic urgings, and also one that I could maybe tell a little backstory about the images.

I find myself not taking my camera with me enough, and then mentally kicking myself, because inevitably I run across something that is just SCREAMING to be photographed.

I hope you enjoy the visual guide to my wanderlust, and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.  I've formatted this site to have the oldest post first, so if you don't want to take the time to scroll down to find a particular picture, I've made a handy-dandy category list to your left.  Go me!

And Now For Something Completely Different

   

I decided that once I took some photos, that I'd play with them...change their color, make them a little bit strange.  The results I think are really pretty cool, and some of my favorite pictures are ones that I've modified.

This tree was in the backyard of a house I lived in.  I love...LOVE this picture!  I wish that more of my pictures turned out like this.

Going Up?

When I was trekking through Frankfurt, after leaving a really old, very cool church, I came across this ancient courtyard.  It was recessed from the city about a story, and this stairway was the way up to the main roads.   It wasn't a particularly impressive picture in normal lighting, but I found once I played with it a little bit, it turned into something pretty neat.  At least I think so. :)

Amazon, Anyone?

In Auburn, CA there is a dentist's office with these GINORMOUS statues out front.  Apparently, the dentist is an artist, and he is using his property as a "gallery".  It's really rather odd to be driving down a relatively normal suburban road, and run across 3 VERY large naked ladies, and one VERY large naked man. (But, hey, what a great directional aide!)  I mean, how can you NOT take a picture??

Home (not so) Sweet Home

This is the house I grew up in, in Portland.  I was driving through the area a while back, and took a picture.  It's really a cute house, but since I spent the better part of my life being indoctrinated in said house, I thought the color change was appropriate.  It makes it look kind-of scary and warped...which is really pretty fitting...

So, You Want To Be A Goddess?

The Leela Palace is this amazing hotel in Bangalore India.  When you walk in the lobby, it just kind-of takes your breath away with the obvious beauty, but also the smells of incense, flowers, and food...I loved the smell of that place.

This is the statue of the Goddess Kali.  Everyday they'd have an offering of incense and food to her. 

Mossy McMoss-Moss

On the scenic highway on the way to Multnomah Falls, we rounded a bend and saw this.  I made Martin stop so I could take this picture.  I think this is still my favorite of all my photographs.

Multnomah Falls, in all it's splendor.  I love the Oregon Gorge.

Footsteps In The Sand

I took this picture of Arianna in Santa Cruz, right off the Boardwalk.  Somehow, all of the forces in the picture-taking universe alligned, and I got this shot.

Going To The Chapel...

As I was walking in Frankfurt, I heard church bells on the other side of the River Main.

It was such a pretty sound, and I sought out the church.  There is a GORGEOUS church just past the footbridge over the river.  Everyone who goes to Frankfurt talks about St. Bart's Cathedral, and that IS gorgeous and gothic and all that (altho it was under renovation when I was there), but this church was so pretty, with the sunlight on it, and the sound of bells in the air, and I caught this photo as I went around the front of the church.

Bavarian Creme

In the heart of Frankfurt is what seems to be it's own little Bavarian town...Romerberg.

I turned a corner and entered another time period, I swear.  I love these buildings.

Opulence in the Heart of Poverty

The back garden of the Leela Palace in Bangalore, India.  It's Amazing, that's all I can say.

Ode to the Beach

Bandon, Oregon.  I could walk this beach for hours.  And I think I did.

Elephants are Gods, Too!

In the mall (yes, mall) underneath the Leela Palace (a hotel in India with a 3 story Mall underneath it.  Go Figure.), a merchant was selling this statue.  I don't even want to know what it cost.  It was huge.  And I figure shipping would require selling a limb.

I love Ganesh, tho.  He looks like such a roly-poly god.

Where Escher Got His Inspiration

An Alleyway in Frankfurt.  Yes, this is right-side-up.  I love that you can go from building to building like this!

Moo-Honk.

Ahh...the cows in India.  Where do I start?  They are everywhere.  They scoff at motorists.  They step into ongoing traffic, daring you to say something.  They hang out in groups on the medians, like some 50's gang...I half expected to see rolled up cigarettes in their sleeves (if they had sleeves).

They cracked me up.  Everywhere I turned...cows.  And sometimes a Yak thrown in for good measure.

I don't know why I like this picture.  It's grainy and funky and odd.

Excuse Me, May I Have My Arm Back?

So, I went on a Safari (of sorts) in India.  We were in a big cat's enclosure, with Tigers and Lions.  They roamed about freely.  We were in a bus with bars over the windows.  I kept sticking my camera (with arm attached) out of the bars to take pictures.  The indians in the bus were looking at me like "CRAZY WHITE WOMAN!!".  But, who wants bars in their tiger photos??

This barn was just down the "block" from my old place.

I thought this picture looked like it should be painted in Oils.

The Irish Are Everywhere!

An Irish Pub in Downtown Frankfurt.  Go Figure.

Where The Fat Lady Sings

The Opera House in Frankfurt.  You can hardly see it, but there is a statue of a winged horse on the roof that is probably bigger than a couple of people. 

Really impressive place, and the stretch of walk that leads to it is full of shops, eateries, and beer gardens.  All on cobblestone. 

Love it.

That's One Big Shiva!

There is a mall in Bangalore that looks like a medievil castle, complete with turrets, flags and castle doors.  As if that weren't surreal enough (I mean, PRETTY sure I wasn't in England), when you go around back of said mall, you run across this:

A statue of Shiva that, when you go up to it, you only reach it's feet.  They sell blessed coins for you to throw into the water around the statue, so Shiva will grant your wishes.  I guess that's the Indian form of a wishing well.

This is as close to it as I was allowed to take a Photograph.  I wasn't allowed to photograph it while I was up there, because it was "Sacred Ground".  Apparently, at this point, I was on Mall Property, and the guards let me snap away.

Good Vs. Evil

It HAD been a really nice day.  Until I looked up and saw this massive, black storm cloud.  I ran and got my camera, and got this picture.  Then I ran inside and hid.

Under The Boardwalk

Hmm...I didn't make a category for California....So, I guess "Nature" will do.

This is Capitola.  It's just down the road from Santa Cruz, on the way to Monterey.

I loved this area of California.  Carmel-by-the-Sea was my favorite, but Capitola came a close second.

OFF With Their Heads!

This was a statue in Frankfurt.  Pretty sure that it's Charlemagne, but I don't really remember.   Yeah, I know...LEARN YOUR HISTORY, ADENA!!

I liked the statue, and with the color changes, he's nicely sinister.

Bäume vs. Trees

I love these trees.  They're all over Frankfurt, and I don't know what kind they are, but they're so....ODD!  Great for photographs!

Give Me The Peanut, and Nobody Gets Hurt!

In the same "zoo" (and I use this term lightly) in Bangalore, there was a man and child riding an elephant around.  Yeah, I know...Random.  But, anyhow, this elephant would come up to you, and "persuade" you to give him food.  (Like I'd argue w/ a 3 ton animal)  But, as soon as you gave him anything, he'd lift up his trunk, and hand the food to the man. 

What a Scam!!

Ah, THIS is the Life!

For the longest time, this gnome was relegated to sitting inside my house.  I didn't trust him outside.  So, he became our official "shoe gnome", and sat next to the front door, guarding people's shoes.

Now, I've allowed him outdoors.  He hasn't run away yet, and seems quite happy basking on my front porch alcove window.

Golf, Anyone?

Carmel-by-the-Sea.  That green you see in the distance is the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course.

Martin is a golfer.  He grew up in a country club golf course.  There's a tournament named after his dad.  Etc.   Needless to say, he sat on the beach, gazing longingly into the distance.....

Tower of DOOOOOOM!

What was once a beautiful church tower turns kind-of frightening when you mess with the colors.

I like this better than the real thing.

Anyone Care For Some Chicken?

This is not a particularly pretty picture, but it tells a tale.  In India, this is common.  This was literally a block away from what was easily the most extravagant hotel I have EVER seen.

People live there.  There was a butcher in one of the doorways.  This was actually a step up from some of the places I saw that people lived in.

Be Nice To My Building, or I'll Tickle You Death!

I love that this gargoyle is so happy, and I also love the buildings in Europe.  They have so much more character than our boring American buildings.

Blue Gates Are Best

This gate is in my parent's side yard, leading to the barn.  What was a relatively boring picture normally, turned kind-of cool with the color change.

Tropical Paradise in the Desert

The Backyard of the Leela Palace was like stepping into some lush, tropical rainforest....with neatly trimmed grass, of course.

My Daddy Was A Rollin' Stone

Bandon, Oregon.  This is easily the most photogenic beach I've run across.

Gas-Light Horror!

The Winchester House.  Easily one of the strangest places I've ever been.  Where else would have these FREAKY gas-light plug in's??
